Compassion UK is saving the life of a child every hour, every day of the year. In the last 12 months another 10,000 children living in chronic poverty in the developing world have been given the opportunity to hear the Gospel, receive an education, nutrition, health care and other necessary provisions for their development through Compassion sponsorship.
Compassion is unique in the way that it facilitates people in sponsoring a specific child - with whom they can correspond and build a meaningful friendship. For just £18 a month, which is less than 60p a day, a child in the developing world can attend a church based project, where they are loved, cared for and have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. There are now over 36,000 people in the UK and Ireland who sponsor a child through Compassion.
Formerly sponsored child Jackie Nakabugo, from Uganda said ‘Compassion has helped me unwrap the treasures inside of me. If God raises up a generation like us, I believe nations are going to change.’ ![]() Be part of something remarkable If you’re part of the world of facebook then you might be interested to hear about an ingenious group set up by Compassion sponsor James Richardson. The group ‘Let’s do Something Amazing’ is on a mission to raise £50,000 for the work of Compassion. ‘I started this group on facebook because I wanted to see what good would come out of a meaningful group,’ says James. ‘There are so many pointless “if x amount of people join this group then y will happen” groups on facebook. There’s obviously nothing wrong with these groups but I just thought it would be great to see what would happen if we all joined together to do something truly worthwhile! ‘The idea is that everyone who joins the group agrees to donate £10 to Compassion as soon as the total membership level reaches 5,000 people. We are currently at around the 3,200 mark and growing.’ |
