Abandoned in the nursery? |
By Emily Robertson
‘I’d become a Christian a few years ago, but looking back, I never really settled into it. I’d been led to believe that following Jesus would be a bed of roses, so it was a shock when I lost my job and started to struggle with reading the Bible.’
Sadly, Julia’s story is typical of many who come to the Christian faith through evangelistic courses or events. She had warmed to the gospel of forgiveness and the experience of a relationship with Christ but the practicalities of Christian living and the cost of following Jesus were not made clear. When trouble came, Julia’s newborn faith faltered. Now there’s a course to help new Christians grow in their faith. What’s more, Discipleship Explored has been written to help people address this challenge no matter how long they’ve been believers. Discipleship Explored courses are being launched in churches across the UK. The brand new DVD, which accompanies the existing Study Guide and Leader’s Guide, brings the practicalities of a life lived for Christ to the screen. Over eight weeks participants look at the example of the single-minded life of Paul (as seen in Philippians), his actions and his attitudes, his struggles and his joys. Barry Cooper – co-author of both If You Could Ask God One Question and the Christianity Explored evangelistic book– introduces each session from a different location around the UK including Highgate Cemetery, Charing Cross Underground and Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium. The significance of each location ties in with the context of the message and provides a strong visual illustration. Barry Cooper explains, ‘Once people become Christians we simply mustn’t abandon them in the nursery!’ • The trailer can be found on You Tube and further information about Discipleship Explored (along with free downloadable material and publicity) is available at www.discipleshipexplored.org.
