Quote of the Day

The whole of creation, with all of its laws, is a revelation of God.

Dean William Ralph Inge
Chasing the Dragon

chasing the dragon.jpgUntil it was pulled down, the Walled City was Hong Kong’s darkest place.

A lawless area ruled by the Triads, where drug-smuggling, addiction and prostitution flourished, the police hesitated to enter it and the people who lived there were seen as beyond help.

But a young English-woman went there in 1966 and made it her life’s work to offer new life and hope in the name of Jesus.

Jackie Pullinger wrote a classic account of her life and ministry, ‘Chasing the Dragon’, in which she spoke of brutal gangsters converted, addicts healed of their dependence on heroin, and prostitutes leaving their trade for more wholesome lives. It’s inspired two generations with its stories of how God can change lives through people who are wholely devoted to him.
Now it’s having a new lease of life, thanks to a rising young Indonesian Christian illustrator. jackie pullinger.jpg

Toto Winarno has retold the story Manga-style. He’s drawn on the Japanese graphic tradition to capture the dark, claustrophobic atmosphere of the Triad world and the high adventure and emotional rollercoaster that took Jackie from being an innocent young stranger to one of Hong Kong’s most celebrated and respected citizens.

This astonishing story speaks in a new way of the power of God over every kind of evil.

Chasing the Dragon is published by Hodder and Stoughton mid-May, price £8.99
