Quote of the Day

The purpose of Christianity is not to avoid difficulty, but to produce a character adequate to meet it when it comes. It does not make life easy; rather it tries to make us great enough for life.

A brand new way of studying the Bible has been launched by a minister in Teddington. 1 richard littledale.jpg

For people who haven’t got the time or have the inclination to wade through long books or sit through long meetings, Richard Littledale has launched Chatbible. It’s a weekly Bible study forum using Twitter, meaning that contributions must be 140 characters or less.

He says that the format could be a real advantage. “There’s no room to be deeply theological. It concentrates the mind, and you wouldn’t be intimidated by thinking you had to say something worthy.” The first subject was Jesus’s “Blessed are” sayings in Matthew 5, known as the Beatitudes. Contributions include:

“Cameron and Clegg should have these verses on their desks as a daily reminder why the Lord has placed them in No 10. Blessings all.”

“I agree, these qualities are the purpose of Christ’s transforming power in us.”

“Aren’t the ‘Beatitudes’ words that beat your attitudes into shape? (Or out of it...?)”

“A child’s bible writes the beatitudes like so: ‘God bless the poor...’ etc. Are a child’s eyes all that we need to understand them?”
