Quote of the Day

No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. --

John 4:12
Christians Against Poverty - Keeping in the black

Getting into trouble with your finances is easy to do, especially if no-one has ever shown you how to manage your money well.

In most cases the problems are not serious. People just need an easy system to keep an eye on what is coming in and what is going out without making life more complicated. With direct debits, credit and debit cards and joint accounts, keeping control is easier said than done.

The good news is that Christians Against Poverty have such a course – done in three easy sessions – to give people a kick-start in budgeting for themselves and their households.
CAP Money, as it is called, is now being offered in 600 local communities by churches across the UK who have been specially trained to do all the explaining in an easily accessible way.

Delegates also get to watch the CAP Money DVD which aims to keep each session light and interesting.

Duncan recently ran the course at his church. He says, “We had 15 delegates. Approximately two thirds of these were from our community and had no previous connection with our church, and who came along in response to an article we ran in our church newsletter.

“By the end of the evening there was a glint in their eye as they realised that there was some hope after all.”

Anyone who goes on the course who has a more serious debt problem is looked after directly by CAP’s headquarters based in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

For others the course was a good opportunity to get things straight after a change in circumstance.

CAP Money delegate Peter says, “I’ve just made the change from employment to retirement and monthly income to largely a weekly income. It gave me the confidence to know that I can manage my finances with just a little more attention than I have been used to giving them and without feeling like a nerd while doing so.”

If you want to find out if there is a CAP Money course near you visit www.capmoney.org

It is free to attend and you will be steered through the simple budgeting plan by people who care about you from your local church.

Christians Against Poverty is a national debt- counselling charity working in partnership with 125 churches across the UK with the vision to have a centre in every town and city by 2014. For more information about CAP, call 01274 760720 or visit www.capuk.org.
