| Churches fill as recession bites |
|
Churches across the nation have seen a rise in numbers as services since the recession began to bite. Church leaders believe that the economic difficulties are causing people to reassess their lives and values. For some that means searching for new meaning by coming to church.
The Church of England has written a special prayer for those struggling to cope with the pressures of working life. This prayer aims to show people that God is there for the long haul and always ready to listen. He's "always on", just like the church is "always ready" to welcome people who are seeking spiritual guidance and a place to explore the difficult questions of life.
Dear God You know me. Don't You? I'm not just a person on a bus or a train. I'm not just another face on CCTV; or just another login name. I'm me, and I have stuff going on. Love, life, issues; bills to pay; egos at work to deal with; an overflowing inbox. So please, give me strength. Guide me to focus on what's really important and help me make the most of every moment of this new day in this new month. Thank you. Amen |
