Quote of the Day

Life is an adventure in forgiveness.

Fiddles to success

Sara Watkins, the self-titled debut album from the former Nickel Creek fiddle player, is a glorious mixture of folk, country, gospel and pop.sara watkins2.jpg
Produced by former Led Zeppelin bassist, John Paul Jones, it features original songs written by Sara plus inspiring cover tracks.

Sara plays guitar, ukulele and fiddle on the CD and proves herself just as resourceful as a singer. She has a haunting voice along the lines of Sixpence None the Ritcher's Leigh Nash, and her instrumental numbers are foot-tappingly catchy.

Sara cut her teeth, almost literally for she was still a child when the American acoustic music trio Nickel Creek first played in the late 80s. They took inspiration from bluegrass music but soon developed their own distinctive 'progressive acoustic' sound. Sara's talents were evident, even in one so young.

Throughout her teenage years and early adulthood, Sara (fiddle), her big brother Sean (guitarist) and friend mandolinist Chris Thile travelled the US making music.

When in 2000 Alison Krauss produced their self-titled album, the awards and the fans came flooding in. Sara admits she learnt a thing or two about vocals from Alison. The band quit the stage in 2007.

Now Sara's solo career and her new album are enjoying rave reviews. On a recent visit to the UK, Sara recorded an acoustic session for the Bob Harris Show on Radio 2. Watch the skies, for her star is defintely on the rise.
