TV adventurer BEAR GRYLLS on why his faith is a source of strength ![]() Why does Christianity sometimes seem so uncool (compared to riches, fame, ambition and fun)? People look to fame and fortune as the cure to life’s struggles, but both those things on their own leave you feeling pretty empty. You have got to build your house on rock not sand, and especially if you are in the media which can often feel a little like being in the middle of a storm every day. To me Christianity isn’t about being cool or not cool, it is an intimate backbone that is the source of my strength and joy. I mean, how can anything that brings freedom, heals pain, restores relationships, instils peace, refreshes love, melts bitterness, mends broken hearts, gives strength and inspires kindness and generosity, be uncool? It just took me a whole host of years and mistakes to understand that Christianity was about all of this and not fuddy duddy church and smart vicars! What are your tips for learning a bit more about what the Christian faith is all about? Try Alpha. Shara and I did and it was the best thing we ever did together in our life. But with Alpha I always feel ‘What have you to lose and what have you to gain?’ |
