Quote of the Day

Walk boldly and wisely....There is a hand above that will help you on.

Philip James Bailey
No time for retirement

june & balloons.jpgJune Mudle leads a full life. She can be found organising events in her local church, visiting the elderly, even giving out this newspaper. Amanda Thwaite tells us what keep June so active.

June was born in Guildford Surrey, in 1931 and she became a Christian, whilst attending Cranleigh Baptist Church at 7.30 p.m. on Good Friday in 1950!

She always felt, after becoming a Christian, that she was led to be a missionary. She went to the Bible Training Institute in Glasgow and then did a two year study of the French language before working for a missionary organisation on the Ivory Coast between the 1965 and 1974.
Ill health issues meant she was unable to continue and on her return to Cranleigh Baptist Church she was soon invited to work for the church for one year as a ‘social worker’, mainly visiting people. It was during this time she met widower Peter Mudle, who was the treasurer of the church and they married on the 2nd October 1976.

The Fellowship Hour at the church had been set up already and there were 20-30 members of that group when June took over. All the members were women but it was not long before June encouraged the husbands to attend as well and gradually other men joined. The annual ‘Holiday at Home’ week ran successfully for 21 years, attracting up to 150.

People hear about Fellowship Hour, now called Senior Link, through June’s tireless door knocking and leaflet dropping. June delivers 30-40 copies of this newspaper each month. She recently made 30 visits to give out invitations for the next Mystery Tour.

When asked how she knew which doors to knock on, June says that she used to deliver Meals on Wheels and her husband Peter has lived in Cranleigh all his life, so they know a great many people.

Today, Senior Link has about 60 members and weekly attendance averages 45. They have a regular monthly lunch, but every week they play games and have a short gospel message.

June enjoys building relationships and likes to look at each individual as a whole person rather than just focussing on one aspect of their life or need. But most of all June says ‘To God be the Glory, Great things he has done’.
