Quote of the Day

Whether you like it or not, whether you know it or not, secretly all nature seeks God and works toward him.

Meister Eckhart
Poetic Vision

curits_poetic vision.jpgMore than 20,000 people have been through the living room of Brighton artist Curtis Tappenden – not all at once – but still tough on his carpet!

That’s because for nearly 20 years he’s hosted an annual art exhibition in his home with wife Susanne. It’s just one outlet for his passion – to engage a secular world with the Christian message. An illustrator and poet, Curtis works on the design team at The Mail on Sunday and lectures at an art college. The rest of his time is very different – performing his poetry in bars, clubs and pubs.

‘As a performance poet I go into some of the darkest places,’ he said, ‘but a little bit of light can do extraordinary things. As I see it, that’s where I should be. I’m there to infect people with the life-changing love of Christ.’

Curtis is one of a number of artists Bible Society works with as part of its vision to keep the Scripture’s message sounding loud and clear in the crowded marketplace of today’s secular culture. He helped with painting and poetry for their Christmas angel decorations in Swindon’s shopping centre.

Meanwhile, Curtis has plenty of new projects on the boil. ‘I’ve got a busy year ahead: launching live entertainment in a local café, researching for my latest book – oh, and saving up for a new carpet!’
