Quote of the Day

The whole of creation, with all of its laws, is a revelation of God.

Dean William Ralph Inge
No hiding place

no hiding place 1.jpgA man telephoned his friend, only to get his friend’s daughter answering the phone instead.
“Is your father there?” the man asked.
“Yes!” the little girl whispered.
“Then could I speak to him please?”
“No, he’s very busy” , the girl replied in a low whisper.
“Well, is your mother there?”
“Yes,” came the quiet reply.
“Then could I speak to her please?”
“No, she’s busy too!”
“Is anybody else there?”
Still whispering, the girl said, “Yes, the police are here.”
“Then could I speak with a police officer please?”
“No, they’re very busy too.”
“Is anybody else there?” the man asked, becoming exasperated.
“Yes, the fire brigade are here”, the girl said, still whispering, “but they are very busy as well.”
“What is going on with so many people there and everybody is busy?” Innocently, but quietly she answered “They’re all looking for me!”
Hiding is a childhood adventure in which we have all been involved. It can be quite exciting! It was possibly worth whatever punishment came our way when eventually we were found and told how much anxiety and worry we had caused.

To be on the run from our Maker and God is a different matter altogether.

Are you hiding from God? Are you deliberately trying to avoid Him because you fear He will want to change your lifestyle too much?

Inside you, is there an unexplained dislike for all that is to do with God? I believe there are many people like that. Why else would so many people, often in television and radio, sometimes in classrooms, offices and on factory floors be so determined to pour scorn on God?

Or are you someone who would love to know God in a real way, but you feel you just do not have the faith?

Jesus said He came to seek and to save those who are lost. He is on the lookout for ordinary people like you and me. Because He loves us, He wants to find us.

Doreen Irving was a prostitute on the streets of Soho when a Salvation Army worker came to her to speak to her about Christ. “Go away!” said Doreen, but the Salvationist didn’t go away. “Get lost!” was Doreen’s angry response. “My dear you are lost” said the Christian worker.

Stomping off, Doreen Irving could not get out of her mind the words, “My dear you are lost!

Lost from our Maker, lost from life’s meaning and ultimately, if we do not trust Christ, we will be lost from God’s mercy.

If you are running from God, in hiding from Him, or just plain lost, call out to God to find you. It is our sins and evil deeds which separate us from Him, because He is holy and pure. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. He was the focus of heaven’s attention, but whilst hanging on the cross, heaven and his Father God mysteriously turned their backs on Him, as He bore the sins of a lost world on Himself.

This really is the heart of the Christian message, and it meets the heart of our deepest needs. Jesus carried on His shoulders all that cuts us off from God. Our sins were laid on Him. He took the punishment for them in our place. He was God’s substitute. Because He loved us, God provided a way whereby we could be forgiven and brought into close friendship with Him.

That which cuts us off from God, Christ died to take away, so that we might have access to God. God can find us, and we can find Him because of what Christ has done for us. Jesus is the way to God.

If Roger’s words have inspired you to stop hiding from God and commit your life to Jesus Christ you could pray the prayer below:

Father God, I know that all I have done wrong has separated me from You and I’m sorry. I believe in what Jesus did for me on the cross. I want to be Your child. I receive Your forgiveness for all my sins and I accept You as my Lord and my Saviour, please come into my life right now. I want to follow You.

Thank You, Lord. If you have prayed this prayer, or if you want to know more about the Christian faith, you could contact the person who gave you this paper or fill in the coupon on page 8 from the Christian Enquiry Agency.
