A man telephoned his friend, only to get his friend’s daughter answering the phone instead.
“Is your father there?” the man asked.
“Yes!” the little girl whispered.
“Then could I speak to him please?”
“No, he’s very busy” , the girl replied in a low whisper.
“Well, is your mother there?”
“Yes,” came the quiet reply.
“Then could I speak to her please?”
“No, she’s busy too!&r...

My Story: Lesley Mayes
Lesley Mayes has led a full and colourful life. Moved by the suffering of hospital patients, she questioned her faith and sought answers in ‘New Age’ thinking. Here she tells her story.
My father was in the Royal Navy and my mother was an ambulance driver in the First World War. They both contracted tuberculosis and were sent to a sanatorium in Switzerland to recover – and that is where they met! Fresh air, good food and rest was the medical treatment in those days, as ther ...

CultureWatch DVD Review - Where the Wild things are
CultureWatch DVD Review Where the Wild Things are Certificate 12 Do you ever wish adults wouldn’t behave like children? Film-maker Spike Jonze believes this is one of our biggest problems: we allow our emotions to rule us, so we’ve become selfish, self-indulgent and demanding. His adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s enchanting children’s book Where the Wild Things Are shows how childish this behaviour is.
The original is a very short picture book, so the film inevitably ma ...

Easter confusion
It’s got beyond a joke. I really must get a grip.
Friday is shopping-for-the-week day. It’s no fun – but it’s got to be done. My wife and I have a system designed to get the job done and then to get home in the shortest possible time.
The plan kicks off with my dropping her off to start the shopping while I get petrol. So far so good. I return, park, go into the store… and begin to check the isles…
My wife is nowhere to be seen!
It’s th ...

Where God-questions are put to the test This month’s question…
Even though Jesus said he was God it doesn’t mean he was
You are right. Just because Jesus spoke of himself as being God it doesn’t mean he was. Much like the people they used to lock away for believing they were Napoleon.
But Jesus saying he was God does create a trilemma – which is one step worst than a dilemma! Because someone who says they are God can be only one of three things. Either 1) ...

Easter Sport
When David Beckham was recalled to the England team after new England coach, Steve McClaren, had very publicly excluded him from his first England squad, The Times summed it up in a cartoon. The cartoon showed a very animated football fan telling a vicar ‘It’s amazing! Beckham was dead and buried. Now he’s been resurrected’. It was an interesting application of the Bible to sport.
