T wo hundred years after the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade, an estimated 12 million people are still in slavery. Some, including children, are trafficked for the sex trade; others, in India, for example, are forced to work to pay off debts inherited from their parents or grandparents. A new organisation, Christian Anti-Slavery Today (CAST) has been launched to try to change that. A project of Siloam Christian Ministries, it aims to mobilise churches to campaign on the issue. “Many people do not understand the shocking reality of slavery today,” explains spokesman Bisi Omiteru. “We want to mobilise individuals to do simple things like ethical shopping or writing to policy makers.” ![]() For more information visit www.cast.eu.com |
