Quote of the Day

Life is an adventure in forgiveness.

My Story - Sandy Prynne

Nurse Sandy Prynne’s home came under attack from troublemaking youths. Fearful for herself and her daughter, she sandy.jpgprayed to God for a safe home. Here she tells her story.

I used to go to Sunday School when I was a child. I suppose many adults who were children in the 50s and 60s would say the same.

I used to go to Sunday School when I was a child. I suppose many adults who were children in the 50s and 60s would say the same.

It would give Mum some space to cook the Sunday lunch, and Dad some peace on his day off.

I continued to attend until the age of 14 when friends, make-up and boyfriends seemed much more attractive.

I met my husband when I was 20, and as he was anti Christianity I drifted away from the church. I attended occasionally but we moved around every few years because of my work as a nurse. We spent some time in North Wales where I attended chapel every so often – usually Christmas, Easter and Harvest Festivals.

I returned to Thanet in 2000. My husband died in 2001. I lived in Ramsgate, and the locality where I lived gradually became more troublesome because of teenage groups. As I lived in an end house, my door was used as a goal post. Asking the youths to stop just led to increased nuisance, graffiti and abuse.

One Friday night the menace became very frightening with youths knocking on windows, shouting and causing general mayhem.

Eventually I called the police. An ASBO notice was served and I was very concerned about reprisals.

I prayed to the Lord to protect me and help me find a peaceful home for myself and my daughter. There were no reprisals – in fact there was quiet and stillness the whole weekend, and through the following week.

I returned to work on Monday and met a student who was trying to sell her house in Westgate, near St James’ church. We eventually moved into the house in November 2006. My prayers had been answered!

I went to the morning service on the first Sunday and gave thanks to the Lord for my new-found peace of mind. I promised that I would not only worship Him but work in His service in any way he would show that I could be useful.

It hasn’t all been plain sailing, of course, and some of my colleagues look at me sideways when I begin discussing my weekend activities.

I attended a lecture on spirituality at work and realised that although I was addressing my physical and mental needs I wasn’t attending to my spiritual health – and that can only happen through a relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Christianity to me means trust, obedience, service and witness. It is not one-sided though because the love, joy, peace, and hope of eternal life are such tremendous God-given gifts to me – and all who walk with Jesus.

You only need to ask!
