Quote of the Day

Walk boldly and wisely....There is a hand above that will help you on.

STEP OUT AND CHANGE THE WORLD

Throughout the world, millions of people have to walk miles to find water. And often, at the end of their journey, what water they find is dirty and unhygienic. Samaritan’s Purse wants to change that.

p1-and-5-walk_cha.jpgAll you have to do is go for a walk.

On Saturday 10th May (or a date that suits you) Samaritan’s Purse – well-known for their Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes - are asking thousands of people to go for a walk. They want folk to walk four miles – the average distance that women in Africa and Asia have to walk to find water. The Turn On The Tap Challenge Walks will highlight facts such as the appalling statistic that every 20 seconds a child in the developing world dies from disease related to drinking dirty water. Simon Barrington, Executive Director of Samaritan’s Purse (UK), says: ‘It is very straightforward to organise a walk and we have produced detailed Turn On The Tap Challenge Walk guides covering all you need to know. Taking part in a Turn On The Tap Challenge Walk will be a very positive experience for all involved and will make a tangible difference to the well-being and future of people in the developing world.’

The idea is really simple.

  1. All walkers pay a one-off registration fee of £2 per person.
  2. They walk for four miles.
  3. Er ... that’s it.
Oh, all right, you want more? Well there are lots of things that you can do along the way to raise awareness, increase understanding and even raise more money – for details see www.turnonthetap.
